Situated in the heart of Portobello Road, London, Portobello Studio is a high-end London residential studio set up by JBJ Recordings. Surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Portobello Road Market and the famous Notting Hill district, the studio can be a welcome oasis of calm or the place to get your carnival vibes on, making it the perfect private bolthole for your sessions.
This studio is unique in terms of its West London location and the total privacy it affords. As one of the only residential recording studios in London, artists can lock themselves away and really get stuck into their projects and if they want to take a break and venture out, they have the vibrant Portobello Road on their doorstep to inspire them.
With beautifully designed five-star accommodation sprawled across four floors, this London residential recording studio is the ultimate in luxury. The stunning, no-expense spared accommodation has high ceilings, parquet floors and huge windows. It consists of three substantial bedrooms, elegant bathrooms, a spacious lounge and kitchen area and a private roof terrace to relax and soak up the atmosphere. To add to the wow-factor, there is even a James Bond-esque slide that connects the top bedroom to the lounge. It really is a residential recording studio experience like no other.
For larger writing sessions, we can also provide additional beds. If required, we also have access to an additional one bedroom apartment for an extra charge, which is only a 3 minute walk door to door. The large, bright living areas, as well as the live room means the studio can accommodate all types of sessions, from small ensembles, band tracking, writing camps with multiple set-ups, mixing and more. The living area also features the beautiful Yamaha GC1 Grand Piano.
The newly-built control room, designed by senior acoustician Nick Whittaker, boasts an SSL AWS 924 console, Studer tape machines and ATC monitoring. The main feature being the recently purchased, large soffit-mounted Quested monitors from Abbey Road Studio 3, as well as the fully calibrated Trinnov system for truly world-class monitoring. With a Pro Tools 12 rig, Focusrite rednet convertors and a great collection of analogue outboard gear, microphones, backline, instruments and amps, the studio features the very best in analogue and digital equipment and is the ideal environment for your session.
The outboard includes classics such as GML 8200 EQs, Pultec EQ’s, Fearn pre-amps, Thermionic Culture and retro compressors. All analogue mixes can be recorded to DSD for ultra HD masters, or the Studer A80 tape machine for added analogue warmth and compression.

The Residential
Portobello Studio is one of the only London residential recording studios. The luxury accommodation is sure to make your stay really special. The house features three stylish bedrooms, with various sleeping arrangements possible, to suit your needs. The master suite includes a show-stopping round bathtub and stunning four-poster bed and the other bedrooms all have their own ensuite bathroom.
The large kitchen / living room area is the ideal place to kick back after a session and enjoy the wonderful views Portobello Road, or perhaps relax with your morning coffee on the private roof terrace. Catering can be provided should you want it, working with you to determine your dietary requirements and preferences.
