Lightship 95 Studio

London’s Floating Recording Studio

Once a beacon in treacherous seas, Lightship 95 is now securely moored at Trinity Buoy Wharf, just across the river from the O2 . Weighing 550-tonnes, the ship was originally moored on the Goodwin Sands off the South Coast of Kent until 2003, when it was then converted to a recording studio by producer Ben Phillips, who ran the studio til 2017. Producer/mixers, Dave Holmes and Giles Barrett now work out of the studio and have an impressive array of clients between them.

It’s generously sized 10m x 5m live room, dedicated vocal booth, huge air-conditioned and port-holed control room and extensive acoustic treatment built deep in its steel hull never fails to impress. The space is extremely flexible - capable of accommodating anything from expansive jazz ensembles through delicate string sessions to thunderously heavy rock and metal. Our collection of unique, vintage instruments and backline is available for your session, including our Hammond Organ, Wurlitzer 140B, Fender amps and Ludwig drum kit.

24 tracks of 2” tape, and 40 channels of I/O to Pro Tools, along with a Calrec S2 console and a selection of classic outboard provide ample tracking options for any session. Genelec 8050’s provide crisp and precise midrange details, whilst the ribbon tweeters of the Adam A77x’s offer a rich, warm sound to luxuriate in.

Freshly ground arabica coffee and a selection of herbal teas are always available in our kitchen. A fridge, microwave, and hob allow for self-catering sessions, and there is always the cafe and diner on the quayside offering meals for all diets, including vegan options. The lounge area has a sofa, chairs, and a breakfast bar, to function as a green room for sessions and shoots.
