Giles Barrett is a producer, mixer, engineer who works out of Soup Studios in East London where a lot of his production and mixes have been created. Born in Scotland, Giles moved to London in the early noughties and began working at Soup in 2008.

Throughout his 15-year career he’s worked with a wide range of artists, favouring an organic approach based on a love of musicians playing live together in a room. This proved a perfect fit with a new generation of London Jazz musicians who have favoured Soup Studios over recent years. Giles’ engineering credits over this time include sessions with Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia, Joe Armon-Jones, Ashley Henry, Ezra Collective, Kokoroko, Maisha, Ill Considered, Shabaka Hutchings, Yussef Dayes, Zara McFarlane, Nerija, Sahra Gure, Steam Down & Sampa the Great.

Whilst continuing to engineer and produce at Soup, Giles has recently set up a new mix studio at the Old Sausage Factory in Camberwell, South London, sharing the space with fellow producer David Holmes and taking on mix work for an eclectic range of artists, from new jazz crew PYJAEN, through ambient and classic work to folk artists Johnny Flynn and Bess Atwell. Giles is currently producing a new album with Bess, and the debut from South London 8-piece Don’t Problem.
