Drawing inspiration from psychedelic rock and dream pop, Sunken’s forthcoming single showcases an evolution in sound. London born and bred, the band started with siblings Poppy and Finn Billingham - who sing and play bass respectively - and was complete when drummer Jonah Winslet and multi-instrumentalists Clem Appleby and Finn Boxer joined the group. Refining their aesthetic and finding common ground by listening to music as a collective, their new music is immersive, unconventional, abstract and nostalgic. Bringing the songwriting element to the forefront of their production, 2020 enabled the band to delve into their creative process, making it collaborative and organic.

Showcasing elements of grunge under the dream pop umbrella, they have developed their own style and gravitated towards a lack of polish and DIY element in sound transformation. Capturing the element that makes songs intriguing and engaging at first play, Sunken have experimented with texture and layering sounds. Open to interpretation, their lyrics are ambiguous, projected and often fictional due to the lack of real life experience lockdown enabled. This liberated their songwriting and allowed the band to explore different scenarios and darker moods in their music. Having spent 2020 watching gigs online instead of playing, the band are keen to return to intimacy of being on stage and connecting with their audience.

Sunken released their debut single Over The Days in 2018 on tastemaker Handsome Dad Records. This was followed by two further singles and their self-released debut EP Hometime in 2020 through Believe and a string of UK support tours.

Sunken are now looking ahead to the next part of their captivating journey. Their recent single, Show Me Your Mind, was produced and mixed by Ben Hillier and was released on 14 July 2021 on Seven Four Seven Six.

The band returned to the studio to record their next EP with Ben Hillier, due for release later this year.
